Energetic, brightly colored watercolor and oil
still lifes are the signature work of Betty
Carr, who is
known for her skillful use of light, color, and shadow
in her floral and landscape paintings. She has lived in
Colorado and California but now resides in Arizona because
she feels an affinity for the natural beauty and bright
sunshine of the Southwest. Loving to paint and teach throughout
the country, Betty and her artist husband, Howard Carr,
travel for several months every year. In numerous locations
they teach artist workshops where Betty often advises her
students to draw continually because “drawing is
critical to good painting.”
Carr was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California
and developed a love of art from visiting museums.
For 23 years she taught art in public schools and created
sculptures in her spare time. Carr has been featured
in numerous publications including Art of the West,
Southwest Art, American Artist, Art Talk, and Vitality
magazines. She is extremely proud of her acceptance
into the exclusive Knickerbocker Association of New
York City.
