Robert Highsmith received his art training from New Mexico State University and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, graduating with honors in 1971. He has had many one-man and group shows throughout the country and is the recipient of over a hundred awards for watercolor and painting. Robert is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the New Mexico Watercolor Society. He is also a member of the National Watercolor Society, San Diego Watercolor Society, and the Georgia Watercolor Society. His work is in numerous corporate and private collections in this country and abroad.

Robert's paintings make strong, simple statements as he captures the light in landscapes of the Southwest, evincing equal parts technical virtuosity and heart. Primarily painting landscapes and architectural scenes, his art reveals a softness of light, shadow, and brushwork that can only be accomplished with the immediacy of watercolor, complemented by the stark contrasts that lend the work its photo realism.
