Growing up in rural southern California, Meadow Gist was inspired by the colors in nature from an early age. It was her love of nature and the desire to capture the beauty around her that originally attracted Meadow to art. The artistic efforts of a young girl revealed an intensity and vibrancy that remain in her work today. For her formal training, Meadow sought out Jeffrey R. Watts at Watts Atelier of the Arts. It was here that she was exposed to the fundamentals of drawing, as well as the paintings of Nicolai Fechin, Anders Zorn, Cecilia Beaux, and Dean Cornwell.

Several years into her studies, Meadow was asked to teach at the Atelier. She is currently a full-time teacher for the school. Meadow divides her time between teaching, painting, and the sewing of costumes and accessories worn by the models in her paintings. "My current work in the Colonial era requires research into period-appropriate attire and environments. I use authentic materials such as silk, linen, and wool. The creation of custom dresses and suits is an art of itself. I think of a time when everything was created by hand, and a reflection of both wearer and creator."

Meadow believes in the maintenance of skills through drawing and painting from life. "I am very fortunate to be able to grow my skills by taking classes, as well as teaching. My peers and students keep me fresh and excited." She has continued to pursue her career as a gallery painter and has recently had her worked exhibited at her first "One-Person Show" as well as the OPA National Exhibition and as a finalist in the International "Still Lifes and Florals" competition. Meadow is an artist member of both the California Art Club and Oil Painters of America. She currently resides in Carlsbad, California with her husband, two cats, two rats, two birds and one dog.
